Hello everyone! The weather is getting nicer. Many of you are planning a weekend escape, right?
Today, I have the perfect Ganghwado travel course. It is only a 1-2 hour drive from Seoul. You can visit easily without any pressure.
Some think Ganghwado is just boring historical sites. That is absolutely not true! I will share my personal Ganghwado travel route.
It is packed with ocean views, aesthetic cafes, and great trails. Today’s spots will definitely fill up your camera roll.
We are visiting Gwangseongbo, Goryeogungji, and the trendy hotspot Joyangbangjik. Let’s start our virtual tour right now!
Our first stop is Gwangseongbo. It is famous for its long fortress wall trail along the coast.
I stepped out of the car. The cool ocean breeze hit me immediately. My city stress just melted away.
Gwangseongbo has amazing walking paths. The stroll itself is pure healing.
Walk through the lush pine forest. A breathtaking ocean view will suddenly appear! It is truly a piece of art.
Do you want nature and history during your Ganghwado travel?
Gwangseongbo is the absolute best. Stand casually near the artillery batteries or stone pillars.
Your photos or Reels will look like a movie scene. Bring a tripod! You can capture the best aesthetic photos of your life at Gwangseongbo.
Next, we move to the peaceful vibes of Goryeogungji. This was the royal palace site during the Goryeo Dynasty.
The capital moved here to escape Mongol invasions. It is not an overwhelmingly massive palace. Instead, it has a modest and tranquil charm. You can really feel the marks of time.
The scale is not huge. This makes it perfect for a light, easy tour. Above all, I loved the peaceful atmosphere.
The restored Oegyujanggak building inside Goryeogungji is stunning. The traditional colors make a fantastic photo backdrop.
Do you hate crowded tourist traps? Do you want a quiet place to walk? Add Goryeogungji to your Ganghwado travel itinerary. It offers a cozy and calm sensibility in every season.
Now, a Ganghwado travel experience wouldn’t be complete without a cafe tour, right?
The grand finale of our trip is Joyangbangjik, undeniably a must-visit spot in Ganghwa.
It’s a massive retro cafe converted from an old textile factory, and from the moment you step through the iron gates, you’ll be letting out a “Wow~”.
The interior of Joyangbangjik is filled with analog vintage props, making you feel like you’ve time-traveled straight to the 1970s.
From rusty tractors to old televisions and sewing machines! Every space has a different theme, and there’s so much to see that I actually spent way more time looking around and taking pictures than drinking my coffee.
Parking Strategy: Joyangbangjik is so famous that the parking lot fills up quickly on weekend afternoons.
While the dedicated lot is quite large, if it’s full, don’t stress—just use the nearby public parking lots (like Sinmun-ri Public Parking Lot). On the other hand, parking at Gwangseongbo and Goryeogungji is relatively easy, so no worries there!
Timing Your Visit: If you check the high tide times in advance and visit Gwangseongbo when the water is full, you can take much more stunning photos with the sparkling ocean in the background instead of mudflats.
How did you like this perfect Ganghwado travel course, packed with great sights, delicious treats, and aesthetic photo ops?
With the beautiful coastal trails and fortress walls of Gwangseongbo, the relaxing tranquility of Goryeogungji, and the unrivaled retro vibes of Joyangbangjik that please both the eyes and the palate!
This weekend, instead of just staying home watching Netflix, how about grabbing your family, partner, or friends and heading out for a lighthearted getaway?
